Bryony Bennett

Bryony Bennett is Editorial Team Lead with The Careers Company. Her role involves such things as liaising with the CEO and other members of the team, conducting interviews, writing blogs, editing and proofreading. She also helps promote TCC on social media. Bryony is a professional woman with a range of key skills and qualifications. She also has lived experience of mental illness.

Bryony’s first degree was in English (BA Hons), after which she worked for some time in publishing. Having always had an interest in people, Bryony took a conversion course in Psychology (GradDip) which she passed with distinction. Aspiring to become a Psychologist, Bryony undertook a range of relevant voluntary work whilst completing a degree in Clinical Psychology (MSc).

As someone once said, “life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” This saying proved true for Bryony when – whilst pursuing her career goal of becoming a Psychologist – her life took an unforeseen turn. Bryony had her own mental breakdown in 2014, and experienced several subsequent hospitalisations. Bryony then began her ongoing journey to recovery.

Fast forward to the present, Bryony interviews people from a range of different professions, and writes up blogs for the TCC series A Day in the Life. Happily, Bryony is able to utilise her verbal and written communication skills with her interest in what makes people tick. Thus uniting her English and Psychology backgrounds in an unexpected but rewarding way.

Bryony also shares hard won insights from her lived experience of mental illness. In the series Mental Health and Me, Bryony reflects on her mental health challenges and what helps her manage them. Topics have included such things as the mental health benefits of nature, and the importance of taking regular breaks. At the end of each blog Bryony poses a couple of optional questions for the reader to ponder.
